Soundcloud Editorial

Hello to you all, I’m back with another cool announcement. A few days ago I recieved around 4,000 plays on a mini tape I released on my side project, prtnd. After looking into the source of the plays I discovered that it was recently featured on a soundcloud editorial. What really made my day was the artists I was sharing that playlist with; Dj Shadow, bonobo, Actress, ODESZA, Nightmares on Wax, and many others that I admire tremendously.

Many people sleep on soundcloud, for good reason. It seems the glory days of 2014 are long gone, and while many artists have abandoned it, I decided to put a lot of stock into it for my new alias. prtnd has very low numbers on spotify, and I have no plans to promote it or run ad campaigns. My soundcloud numbers have been flourishing because I’ve decided most of my target audience (lofi hip hop) use it, so I’ve been uploading frequently and promoting it through appropriate discord channels. While the payouts are absolute trash imo, it feels really good to hit these numbers on a site that really started it all for me. My first project ‘whompo’ was exclusively releasing on soundcloud. Instead of deleting that page long after I was done making house music, I rebranded it into ‘prtnd’ and that helped me not waste years of work building it up from scratch.

How did I land on this editorial you ask? I really have no clue. The tape has been out for a couple months and did net 1000 plays on it’s own which I think helped, but the placement was unwarrented.
